Installation
The procedure is straightforward; external installations will usually cause little disturbance internally to the customer's home or business.
Mark out an evenly spaced and level pattern at 36 to 40 cms (14 inch to 16 inch) centres. Drill out 78 to 80 mm cores at a five degree angle on the same level as the original damp-course if possible.
Two or more tubes may be butted to achieve the necessary length on thicker walls.
Clean the hole and ensure there are no snags to bedding the tubes; ensure the mortar is well packed around the tube and the closer cap is in place.
Use clean washed Kentish sand and Portland cement mixed to a 'creamy' consistency at a measured ratio of 9 to 1.
Add lime putty and/or Feb Plasticiser to ensure workability.
Even spacing is important for appearance. For efficient working of the tubes install at approximately 15 to 16 inch / 40 to 45 cms centres.
Ventilator caps can be supplied in four colours - black, white, stone or terracotta.
Choose ventilator caps which blend with the wall. Terracotta on most brickwork for example. |
Appearance can be important!
When the ventilation caps are fitted the tubes blend in with existing render or brickwork
The "skirting board" option may be used where decorated internal walls in homes, offices and shops are to be protected.
This is still a full Hydrotek-Wallguard installation but with the ventilator cleverly disguised to blend in with the decorations.

Specially developed Hydrotek-Wallguard porous ceramic tubes work by "soaking up" water from the surrounding brickwork and mortar course. The tubes when installed have a very slight downward tilt; about 5 degrees from the horizontal. Moist air falls to the bottom of the tube and evaporates out through the ventilation cap.
There are no maintenance or running costs. The method is simple, clean and effective.
